Russian Shot I.D.

Anyone know what this shot is... never seen it before. Confused

Well it does say this, This is a photograph of Russia's first hydrogen bomb explosion. I have never seen this stage of the mushroom cloud before.

This can not be the their countries first true h-bomb test, wich is what the site said. It looks way to large large to be 250 kilotns, maybe, but it could be the Joe-9 shot perhaps at the Totsk Range.

Well my image looks like it could be around 250 kilotons, I guess they are just simular looking. Very cool pic Blake. Smile

I would like an ID on both these pictures. I'm not even sure these are of the same test, although they look very similar. There doesn't appear to be the classic mushroom shaped head to the cloud. It almost looks like the ring of smoke the shoots out of a silo during a missle launch.

Blake your photo looks like the Test conducted at the Totsk Range in 1954, (Joe-8, 40 kilotons), and mine looks like Russia's first H-Bomb Test of 1954, (Joe-4, 400 kilotons). I don't have a positive I.D. on any of the Test but that is what I think, because of this: This is a photograph of Russia's first hydrogen bomb explosion.

Highly reminiscent of an early 50's US shot, possibly from Tumbler-Snapper. I have seen a picture that's really similar to this on the DOE site with two or threee soldiers looking up at it. The DOE site is down right now so I can't check. It wouldnt be unheard of for a misidentification of this order.

It looks like the Tumbler Snapper Dog test,however it is not a shot on Nevada Test Site.There´s no doubt this is a shot in the Semipalatinsk test range...look the ground and vegetation...

I believe this is not a high yield shot because the cloud formation.Here a image of the Capricorne shot (4 kilotons):

i think that this photo where from a russian atmopsphéric test, and more accuratly....
.....a airbust test in the semipalatinsk test range
.....the yield of the test ranged from 10 to 150 kilotonns

Why ?....because the formation of the steam, the formation of the mushroom cloud.....
