For over 30 years the French government carried out their nuclear bomb tests in French Polynesia, better known as Tahiti, in order to develop the Hydrogen Bomb. This fascinating documentary charts the uneasy relationship between the Tahitian natives, the French government and the international community (including Greenpeace and the sinking of their Rainbow Warrior boat by the French Secret Service). Rare footage of several nuclear bomb tests is included.
A very interesting documentary. It is pretty ridiculous some of the French footage where they are all on a boat watching the test, all wearing the same white outfits and goggles, they really do look like cheesy idiots.

Sorry to bounce 1 year after but I just wanted to add this documentary is not French (BBC - ZDF). It is quite good but names of tests, yields and footage are a bit mixed up. Thanks for making the effort of uploading it anyway!
And what was wrong with wearing protective equipment on the boats, apart from the looks

Yes it is in English. Would be nice if they did not edit the test clips so short. Clearly they were in great quality to begin with, the underwater test they show from 1974, looks like it was filmed even recently given the camera quality. Reminds me of basic cable That one clip where the camera is directly behind a fence, and shows the shock wave when it hits is really something, it looks like your standing there watching it. Too bad it is only a few mere seconds long.

Yes i think the French were very, how would you put this, "Amazing" i guess you could say, with there camera shots and photagraphy, during there testing... and that shot behind the fence which was the Arcturus shot, is problably my favorite test by the French.
