The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter used by the RAF during WW2, where it achieved legendary status. From it's Schneider Trophy origins, the aircraft went through 24 marks and many sub-variants. The Spitfire was named after daughter of the director of Vickers-Armstrong, who referred to her as his "little spitfire". The operational history of the Spitfire started when MkIs entered service with 19 Squadron at RAF Duxford on 04/08/1938. There was, and still is, a common perception that it was solely responsible for winning the Battle of Britain, however the more numerous Hawker Hurricane actually shouldered a greater proportion of the burden against the Luftwaffe. Music: Pretty Lights - 'Stay'.
