SS-18 Description: 
The SS-18 is the Nato reporting name for the largest of the Cold War Soviet ICBMs. A two stage rocket powered by storable liquid bipropellant UDMH and nitrogen tetroxide. The missile went through a total of 6 modifications with payloads varying from a single 18-25MT, to ten MIRV warheads each with a 800kt yield. Launched from 39m deep solo by a black powder charged piston with the main engine firing tens of meters above ground, damage to the launch tube was prevented enabling a rapid reloading and secondary launch. Titan ICBM  Description:  The Titan I was a US first generation ICBM using at 2-stage rocket powered by kerosene and liquid oxygen. It carried a 3800kg 9MT W-53 warhead and had a range of 8,850km. The missiles had to be fueled before launch, a a dangerous process requiring 30 minutes. Titan II introduced the use of a non-cryogenic hypergolic fuel, though this had problems too. It was decommissioned in 1987, replaced by the MX Peacekeeper solid fuel missiles.
