Pacific Description:  The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth's oceans. Its name is derived from the Latin name Mare Pacificum, "peaceful sea", named by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. It covers 46% of the earths water surface (65.3 million sqm) and about 32% of its total surface area, making it larger than all of the Earth's land area combined. Aérotrain  Description:  The Aérotrain was a hovercraft train developed in France from 1965 to 1977. The train was suspended on an aircushion enabling very high speeds, low noise and fuel consumption. The project was abandoned due to lack of funding and the death of the lead engineer Jean Bertin. Six prototypes were tested with various propulsion systems; propeller, gas turbine and electric Linear Induction Motor. The largest being the an 80-passenger car, which established the world speed record for an overland air cushion vehicle on 05/03/1974 with a speed of 417.6 km/h.
